Mapping Citibike trips data

For this next assignment, I worked with Citi Bike's trips dataset, accessed on June 10, 2022. For consistency sake, my classmates and I were all assigned data from September 2020 and September 2021 to work with.

The analyses wasn't much, but was done using various Python libraries — Pandas, Numpy, Altair and Geopandas — on a Google Colab notebook.

The total number of trips in September 2020 was about 2.4 million. In the same month a year later, that number went up to 3.2 million.

These first two maps show the number of trip starts for each Citi Bike. All four maps are interactive, meaning you can zoom in and out of them. The map on the left shows data from Sept 2020, and the second one is for Sept 2021. The median number of trip starts was 1457 in 2020 and 1133 in 2021.

These next two maps show stations where trips ended, for the same two months. Like the previous two maps, these too, are interactive!

In both 2020 and 2021, W 21 St & 6 Ave was the station with the most activity — in terms of both the number of trip starts and stops.
